[View Online]( [Facebook]( [Twitter]( [Forward]( Hi there, If you’re among the folks who’ve by now gotten at least one dose of the life-saving Covid-19 vaccine, but are feeling tremendous pandemic-related anxiety still, you’re not alone. [A recent poll]( by the American Psychiatric Association found that more people are reporting pandemic-related mental health concerns than last year. And if you’re having trouble letting go of the mask, [we feel you](. This Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re taking a look at the way artists are using their craft to promote collective wellbeing. We’re also excited to share three incredible new releases to look forward to this summer. With all the heartbreaking events over the past year, remember that [activism burnout is real](. Take a listen to the [Sunstorm Podcast]( with Alicia Garza and Ai-jen Poo, which was created as a source of support, hope and inspiration to fight activism fatigue. Take care of yourself, so you can take care of those around you. - Your fellow Participants [Headlines + Highlights] [Final Account Trailer]( The Bystander Effect “I’ve always said we didn’t know, but in the end we are perpetrators too. We let it happen.” -Regine Wolff. FINAL ACCOUNT features the last living generation under Hitler as they reflect back on their experience growing up in Nazi Germany and watching atrocities happen before their eyes. As nationalism and white supremacy are on the rise in the U.S. and around the world, it’s a timely reminder that all genocide requires the complicity of everyday people. “The warning is implicit, but unmistakable: If you don’t believe that Americans of today are just as susceptible to the flaws of human nature as the Germans of the 1930s, you’re either an optimist or you haven’t been paying attention.” ([SF Chronicle](. Catch Final Account in theaters tomorrow. [WATCH THE TRAILER]( [First Wave Trailer]( Looking Back at the First Wave Thanks in part to rising Covid-19 vaccination rates, this Mother’s Day weekend marked [one of the first]( major family reunion moments across the U.S. in over a year. But while some folks were finally able to enjoy that long-awaited embrace, too many others abroad continue to wait for their vaccines as new waves of infections rage on. To keep things in perspective, we’re looking back at the heroic actions of frontline workers during the first wave of the pandemic at its epicenter: New York City. Our new documentary, FIRST WAVE, directed by Matthew Heineman, premieres later this year on National Geographic. (Before viewing: keep in mind this film includes real footage from Covid-19 wards and hospitals, which could be distressing for some.) [CHECK IT OUT]( [Stillwater Trailer]( Worth The Wait Movie theaters are opening back up across the States this summer, giving movie lovers everywhere a chance to finally enjoy one of our favorite pastimes and reclaim some sense of normalcy. Our friend Tom McCarthy (director, SPOTLIGHT) returns to the silver screen on July 30 with his new film, STILLWATER, starring Matt Damon, written by Tom McCarthy & Marcus Hinchey and Thomas Bidegain & Noé Debré. Tom told us, “There’s something to be said about a theater full of strangers experiencing the thrill of a movie together -- sharing the range of emotions, suspending reality for a moment and walking away as different people. This film was supposed to come out a year ago, but I’m glad we waited for the theatrical experience. There’s nothing like it.” We couldn’t agree more! [WATCH THE TRAILER]( [Check out the Q+A Malakai]( Here Comes Malakai Meet Malakai, our filmmaker crush and founder of [Made In Her Image](. She took us behind the scenes on our first collaboration, the short digital film [A Revolutionary Act]( which sets the record straight on the incredible contributions of Illinois Black Panther Party Chairman Fred Hampton. She shared with us what it was like to collaborate with Chairman Fred Hampton Jr. and his mother, Akua Njeri, and reflected on the significance of Hampton’s legacy during this moment in the fight for Black liberation. We also asked her to share her tips on how she takes care of her spirit as an artist whenever self-doubt kicks in. Take a look at what she said. [CHECK OUT THE Q+A]( [art + activism in the world] [WindowSwap]( Breathe In, Breathe Out Whether it’s digital, visual, or performance art, we’ve rounded up our favorite pieces that are made to give us a mental health break.
