“Love is unto itself a higher law.” – Boethius, Roman philosopher Stories of Pride

As we celebrate Pride Month, that question can take on as many meanings as there are shades in the rainbow. It’s become an anthem for the LGBTQ community and its allies, representing a whole culture of love and support – all tied to the individual stories we tell in the quest to be who we are, uniquely and proudly. Earlier this month, one of our greatest champions for equal rights, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, penned a dissenting opinion in the U.S. Supreme Court case, which found in favor of the Colorado baker who refused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex marriage. In her statement, Ginsburg said: “When a couple contacts a bakery for a wedding cake, the product they are seeking is a cake celebrating their wedding, not a cake celebrating heterosexual weddings or same-sex weddings, and that is the service Craig and Mullins were denied.” As a modern-day superheroine, Justice Ginsburg has spent her entire career fighting for equal rights under the law. See her story depicted in the film RBG, [now in theaters](. Pride around the world While Pride Month extends beyond borders, the freedom to celebrate openly is not a luxury afforded to everyone around the world. In countries like Turkey, Russia and Uganda, where being gay is condemned or criminalized, the LGBTQ community must continue to stand up for their right to be themselves. For them, Pride Month represents a very real fight to be heard. At Participant Media, we are proud to have provided a platform of [greater visibility for trans rights in Chile]( following the release of Oscar®-winning film, [A Fantastic Woman](. There is still much more work to be done, but through our collective efforts, we are determined to continue the fight for equal rights. This month, Participant Media proudly showcases several [Instagram]( stories from pioneering individuals who are using their influence for good, including trans and genderqueer activist [Jacob Tobia]( whose work sheds an important light on the complexities of gender identity. Follow us on social media for more pride stories throughout the rest of the month. Their singer, Hamed Sinno, is openly gay, a rarity among musicians from the Arab world. It’s new-wave pop meets traditional lyric-based grooviness – all without losing their Middle Eastern flare! I went to their show when they were in L.A. last year – they’re even more phenomenal live! – Lila Watch their latest music video “Roman” Watch their Tiny Desk Concert on NPR LESS Winner of this year’s Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, Andrew Sean Greer’s Less is a funny, heartbreaking modern look at one man’s quest to find love and self in the fragile world we live in today. – Andrew HOMOPHILIA Comedians & Hosts Dave Holmes and Matt McConkey grill LGBTQ celebrities on what they’re loving and who they’re loving. This queer comedy party celebrates pop culture obsessions and interrogates guests about their personal experiences with dating, love and all things pop! Through the podcast I get great recommendations about what LGBTQ celebrities are reading, listening to, or watching. – Jamie TIG NOTARO: HAPPY TO BE HERE Tig Notaro has a wonderful gift for self-deprecation. It’s all in her delivery. Her dry wit and aptly themed LGBTQ humor are timed perfectly with relevant asides that never feel forced or rehearsed. “For most of my life, I’ve been mistaken as a man, at least once a week. Probably no one here is like, ‘Eh, we’re going to need some examples.’” Comedy gold! – Chris Participant’s digital entertainment division, SoulPancake, is an award-winning provider of thought-provoking, joyful and uplifting digital content.
