At the event, Governor Cooper signed a proclamation declaring 2024 The Year of Public Schools at Nashville Elementary School—the school he attended as a child. He urged participants to write to their legislators and share important points about public schools within the state. These points included: - Public schools in NC are doing great work. We encourage you to learn about the great things happening in our public schools.
- It is vitally important for NC to pay teachers like the professionals that they are. High quality teachers are leaving the profession due to low pay.
- Expand access to early childhood education, quality childcare, and pre-kindergarten.
- Place a moratorium on private school vouchers until our PUBLIC schools are fully funded.
