The workshop used modules from the PPS Parent Leadership curriculum to provide information and skills to enhance the group’s advocacy efforts. The workshop also emphasized collaboration between the school district, community, and families to give students the best chance to succeed. Workshop topics included Learning Styles, Leadership Styles, Learning Communities, Leadership and Advocacy, and Community Organizing. Attendees commented: “After taking the Learning and Leadership Styles session, I can say that learning each other’s learning styles can really help us help others.” “We loved the Learning Communities session! It highlighted some concerns with school and district data.” PPS Parent Engagement Program workshops are available to any community organization interested in supporting public schools by increasing parent engagement. A Conversation on Parent-Led Racial Equity Movements   Recently, Shonnie Cooley, PPS community liaison, and Tanya Marsaw, PPS certified parent leader, took part in a virtual conversation concerning parent-led racial equity movements. This conversation was the culmination of the Racial Equity Peer Learning Community project sponsored by New York University’s Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity and the Transformation of Schools. PPS has taken part in the project over the last two years with Shonnie as the PPS champion for the project. The webinar discussion featured parent leaders and staff from leading parent leadership organizations across the country. The webinar entitled, “A Conversation on Parent-Led Racial Equity Movements Community of Practice,” was an opportunity for project participants to share their findings. During this webinar, parent leaders expressed their personal stories, motivations, and considerations for their involvement with racial equity work. They also shared the impact that this equity project had on their families, schools, and local communities. The board was joined by PPS founder and supporter, Dick Molpus, who announced that he was funding the hiring of a development director to lead fundraising efforts and help ensure sustainability of the organization.
