Warm regards, Our Featured Panelist Sara Sneed President and CEO of the NEA Foundation Sara Sneed is the President and CEO of the NEA Foundation in Washington, D.C. Sara joined the NEA Foundation in February 2019, after almost 20 years with the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, one of the nation’s largest community foundations. While with the Hartford Foundation, Sara served as director of education investments, promoting educational equity and excellence with partners at the local, state and national levels. Sara also led the development of strategy and policy advocacy to close persistent educational opportunity gaps and improve student outcomes across some of Connecticut’s highest need school districts. She is credited with developing dynamic new learning opportunities both for and with educators and students; successful advocacy for equity-focused fiscal practices among schools and school districts; and effective grants programs, policy advocacy, and cross sector collaboration supporting English Learners, whole child development and increased family, school, and community partnership. Her efforts resulted in the development of new infrastructures for teaching and learning in Connecticut, strengthened communities of practice, a growing cadre of regional leaders committed to educational and racial equity, and co-creation of several successful community schools alongside partners from the public, private and independent sectors. Alexandria Warrick Adams Executive Director, Elev8 Baltimore Alexandria Warrick Adams, Executive Director of Elev8 Baltimore, has over fifteen years of non-profit experience in education and youth development. After moving to Baltimore Ms. Warrick Adams gained experience working with parents and communities as part of the Fresh Start Initiative providing workforce development training and support to TANF recipients. In 2008, she joined what would become Elev8 Baltimore as a program associate supporting the development and launch of East Baltimore Community School and Elev8 Baltimore. In 2012, Alex brought her experiences to the Family League of Baltimore to her position as Community Resource Schools Program Manager. During her tenure, she was instrumental in deepening the organization’s approach to community school engagement, professional development and middle and high school programmatic interventions. In 2015, she returned to Elev8 Baltimore as the director and has grown the OST program to serve more students, and partner with new communities. Under the direction of Ms. Warrick Adams, Elev8 Baltimore became an independent 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization in 2018. Currently Elev8 is the operator of the first adult high school program in Maryland, is the community school partner to 20 schools and programs and serves over 600 students in its elementary through high school age extended learning programs. In 2023, she was named Community School Initiative Leader of the Year by the Institute for Educational Leadership. She serves on several steering committees and boards to further advance outcomes for children, youth and communities of color in Baltimore. Alex received her bachelor's degree in child and Family Studies and Certificate in Black Studies from Portland State University (Portland Oregon). Her postgraduate studies are in Public History. She is the mother to two adult children.
