We all know cats love cardboard boxes. Especially when there's an expensive cat tree or cushy cat house to ignore in favor of an empty Chewy box. [CAUGHT IN THE ACT] Brain cell count: 0. But you know what's actually just as fun as sitting inside a box, for humans? Turning those boxes into a KITTY CASTLE. (Seriously, if it's been a while since you sat down and made something with your hands, this will be surprisingly satisfying. And easy!) Here's the megacastle I made instead of doing actual work for this company: [Look at this magnificent... thing] Castle, fortress, weird dungeon, all synonyms in my book. So here's your challenge for this week: Gather up all those stray boxes (bonus if you were dragging your feet on breaking them down for the recycling)... And spend 15-30 minutes creating a kitty castle! Your cat(s) (I forget some people only have one) will love it, and I promise you will too. You will need: - Boxes (the more the better, of varying sizes) - Scissors and/or a mat knife - Packing or duct tape - Pencil - Your sense of fun and play — so dig that bad boy out from under all the work emails and calendar appointments [Watch your fingers.] Once you've gathered your supplies, follow these very simple steps: 1. Tape all the boxes closed. 2. Stack boxes in various configurations to figure out what might be the most interesting for Mr./Mrs. Kitter. (Pro tip: you will probably not be able to create the structural integrity necessary for a second floor. But if you do, PLEASE send me a photo.) 3. Use your pencil to outline where you'll cut openings in each box to make doorways. Then use your scissors or mat knife to cut those openings (duh). 4. Align your creation and tape it together one box at a time. 5. Add ~special features~ like cardboard fringe, peepholes, and flaps. Sprinkle liberally with catnip or silvervine (optional). Then sit back and get your phone camera ready. Because if you build it, they will come. [a terrifying king] An insecure prince surveying his cardboard kingdom. Do not get too close or risk being whapped.
