In just the past week, OpenAI announced some exciting new features to ChatGPT, Amazon announced a $4bn investment in an OpenAI competitor and Tesla released footage of their Optimus robot solving puzzles and dancing around a room. This past summer, he announced his own AI company that would revolutionize the industry. It’s a one-of-a-kind artificial intelligence project called xAI. Adding up those numbers — 7 + 12 + 23 — gets you 42 (So it’s likely the date was a nod to Douglas Adams’ popular science-fiction franchise, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.) The series includes a supercomputer called Deep Thought that was built to answer the “Great Question” of “Life, the Universe and Everything.” After billions of years of calculations, it declares the solution is a single number — 42. Obviously, the characters are disappointed because 42 isn’t very useful. But Musk clearly thinks computers can do better.
