And it’s taxed to no end [Altucher Confidential] August 18, 2023 [WEBSITE]( | [UNSUBSCRIBE]( Something like UBI wouldn’t happen overnight. It would likely need a catalyzing event. Something like this. [Hero_Image] Cause Your Dollar Ain’t… CURRENCY WARS ALERT With Putin invading Ukraine…Rising tensions with China… Inflation, recession, supply chain issues, and the potential for greater violence is breaking out all over the world. It seems as if some of my worst fears have finally come true. [That’s why I’ve recorded this message from Pentagon City.]( To tell you exactly what you need to do to prepare for what comes next. Because if history is any indicator, soon…and I mean very soon… This war is not going to end well. [Click here to view my urgent message from Pentagon City.]( [Chris Campbell] CHRIS CAMPBELL Dear Reader, As Agora founder Bill Bonner [pointed out this morning]( Virginia was once the beating heart of the ‘south’… Once. But today, you’ll discover not the moss-covered remnants of a bygone era, but the Stars and Stripes Syndicate… The US behemoth… Its corpuscles growing larger by the day. Indeed, the “[rich men north of Richmond]( erected colossal factories, spewing out both family cars and battle tanks. They birthed great cities. Their Hollywood spun stories, their singers crooned. They made money. Gobs. But, today, those factories have waned. Those metropolises are decaying. And that movie machine is getting thin. What’s left? An America bent beneath a $33 trillion burden, its spirit dimmed by regulatory records so extensive they make King Solomon's archives seem like a brief memo. Grand visions they sell; dreamy budgets that would send a bean-counter to therapy. Dubious quests that challenge the very fibers of sanity. Attention! Before You Read Any Further… [James Altucher]( Hey, it’s James. Before you read any further in today’s issue, an urgent situation needs your immediate attention. [To see how to claim your upgrade, just click here now.]( Once you’re done with that, read on to see today’s issue… Case in point: Universal Baby Bonds Yesterday, we talked about the advent of baby bonds. As proposed by Senator Cory Booker, baby bonds are government-funded savings accounts established at birth for every U.S. citizen. Over time, these funds accrue interest and can be accessed by the individual at age 18, primarily to be used for things like purchasing a home or pursuing higher education. The baby bonds aren’t a novel idea. If anything, they’re just a pilot program to something larger: Universal Basic Income (UBI) -- where every adult citizen receives a fixed, regular payment from the government, enough to cover basic living expenses. At a glance, sure, it seems great. Especially given the looming challenges of the incoming “Fourth Industrial Revolution.” A few problems: Starting with the people who push these schemes the hardest, we already know where their heads are at: An article from the World Economic Forum painted a [dystopian futuristic scenario]( where everything, from thoughts to dreams, are recorded and can be potentially used against you. With the government as the paymaster, UBI will almost certainly come with caveats. They might not just dictate where you spend, but also who you meet, or how you speak. Finally, various governments have already shown tendencies to exert control. From restricting spending of welfare recipients in Australia to punishing dissent in China and freezing assets of protestors in Canada. Giving governments the additional leverage of UBI could lead to further restrictions and conditions. BUT… Something like UBI wouldn’t happen overnight. Never Waste a Good Crisis And it would likely need a catalyzing event. Something where millions would be blindsided. A monetary cataclysm to make it necessary. Perhaps even [something that transforms the monetary world order]( virtually overnight. More to come on that front next week.
