The Rude Awakening presents... [The Rude Awakening] October 19, 2022 [WEBSITE]( | [UNSUBSCRIBE]( UK Pilots Train Chinaâs Air Force to Shoot Down Western Helicopters and Warplanes - Sky News (UK) writes how China's armed forces have recruited dozens of British ex-military pilots.
- The UK Ministry of Defense sees this as a threat to UK interests. No kidding.
- His Majesty’s Government must pass a law to stop the pilots from leaving; currently, it can’t. [These weird devices are about to appear all over America]( According to America’s top tech futurist – dubbed the “Tech Prophet” by Forbes – millions of these strange little devices are about to appear in every corner of our country… including your home. What are they? And why did one tech insider with connections to Apple and Microsoft claim they’ll “rewrite the rules of what’s possible?” [Find out more right here.]( [Click Here To Learn More]( [Sean Ring] SEAN
RING Dear Reader, I’m up bright and early today, on a chilly Wednesday morning here in the Piedmont. Good friend and Rude reader Tokyo Jimmy sent me a few Telegram messages about the “defection” of UK pilots to China. Ok, it’s not anything so dramatic as a defection. It’s merely a simple matter of money. I don’t claim to see the future. And I’m just as ignorant of unintended consequences as the next person. But I object to this: when those unintended consequences manifest themselves and make logical sense, people run around like headless chickens, shocked by the results. To wit, if you don’t pay people, they will find gainful employment elsewhere. We have no idea where, but they’re not going to stay broke forever. And appealing to the vagaries of patriotism and a sense of duty instead of cold, hard cash is always a losing strategy. “The financial incentive must prevail,” as Dan Peña is wont to say. In this Rude, we’ll look at yet another piece of evidence the West is committing seppuku. We’ve Seen This Movie Before One of my favorite books is [For Good and Evil: The Impact of Taxes on the Course of Civilization]( (affiliate-free link) by Charles Adams. It details all kinds of great history in ways we rarely think of. One of my favorite chapters is about the conquest of Islam. Adams relates a fascinating insight into the significant expansion of Islam into the Middle East, the Maghreb, and southern Spain. In English, the Maghreb used to be known as the Barbary Coast (essentially, northwest Africa). We’ve been brought up thinking that Islamic expansion was due to forced conversion. Not so, says Adams. In Islam, it was “death or taxes,” not “death and taxes.” From Adams’s book: “In the name of God, the Merciful and Compassionate. Become Moslem and be saved. If not, accept protection from us and pay the poll tax. If not, I shall come against you with men who love death as you love wine.” - Muslim general to the Persians, AD 633 In plain English: if you convert, you pay no taxes. If you don’t convert, you pay a poll tax. If and only if you do neither, we will kill you. What’s a poll tax, you ask? The word “poll” is an archaic word for “head” or “top of the head.” It’s a tax on the number of adults in a household, regardless of income or wealth. (In America, it’s often used to define the tax you must pay to vote. But that’s not how anyone else uses the term.) The poll tax Muslim conquerors charged was far less than the brutal Romans did. So, the most significant converts to Islam were - you guessed it - Christians. The tax relief thrilled Christians and made them easy targets for moving on over. Imagine if Jehovah's Witnesses had the power of taxation! Historian Daniel C. Dennett, Jr. wrote in his book Conversion and the Poll Tax in Early Islam, “Because of the heavy Kharaj [tax] and grievous burdens, many of the rich and poor denied the faith of the Messiah [Christ].” I relay this story to you because reality dictates that even God moves over for a better economic deal. Hooked on Mathematics Before I get to the so-called “appalling” British pilots, let’s get something out of the way. If you think listening to idiotic leftist drivel in New York or San Francisco is bad, you should try London! For instance, here’s something important and impossible to ignore. According to the UK’s Office for National Statistics, “In 2019, the most common ethnic group in England and Wales was White (84.8%), decreasing by 1.2 percentage points since the 2011 Census; the next biggest change from 2011 was within the Other ethnic group which increased by 0.9 percentage points.” In short, over eight out of every ten people in the UK are white. So, eyebrows furrow when there’s a hiring freeze on white applicants for any endeavor. Now that doesn’t mean it’s nefarious, of course. In 2018, Essex police put out this social media call for more BAME (Black, Asian, and Middle Eastern) constables: [SJN] It aimed to raise BAME representation from 2.5% of the police force to 7%, Essex’s average. Fair enough, assuming you’re missing out on highly qualified candidates. But you need to watch out when you’re messing around with your armed forces. For example, this: [SJN] In that piece, not only does the senior female officer say she’s resigning over ridiculous diversity targets, but [a spokesperson for Rishi Sunak’s team said]( The only thing that should matter in recruitment is the content of your character, not your sex or the color of your skin. That the Ministry of Defence would allow Britain's security to potentially be put at risk by a drive for so-called 'diversity' is not only disgraceful, it is dangerous. If you recall, Sunak is the former Chancellor of the Exchequer and happens to be of Indian ethnicity. Then another former Chancellor piled on. [Sajid Javid, himself of Pakistani descent, said]( I don't think any organization, whether it's the RAF or any other public or private organization, should be recruiting on the basis of one's race. Of course, we want to see a diverse workforce, we want to see all talents come through. And I happen to think having more diversity actually increases the productivity of your workforce. But it should not be based on race - whether it's black, white, or anything. And now for the unintended consequences. Sure, they could’ve [learned to code](. But they prefer flying planes and have paying customers. From Sky News UK: One official said some 30 mainly ex-fast jet but also some helicopter pilots - lured by annual salaries of around £240,000 - are currently in China training pilots for the People's Liberation Army, in what a defense analyst described as a stunning breach of security. £240,000 is about $270,000. But the Twitter thread is even more ridiculous: [Haynes tweeted]( “A retired senior @RoyalAirForce officer said: “Wow… that is appalling. What were they thinking?” Let me guess, “How am I going to pay for anything without a good paycheck?” I bet they were thinking along those lines. From Sky News, again: Francis Tusa, the defense analyst, called the revelations "gobsmacking." "Let's be honest, China is an enemy," Mr. Tusa told Sky News. "As such, we have got British subjects who have decided that their interests are best served by teaching our enemy how to defeat us. This is incredibly frightening." I think I understand what he meant when Oscar Wilde said, “Patriotism is the virtue of the wicked.” Wrap-Up I’m not thrilled about UK fighter pilots training Chinese fighter pilots how to defeat Western jets. But I’m not surprised either. The bureaucrats who run the West once again prove how clueless they are, much to our detriment. Until tomorrow. All the best, [Sean Ring] Sean Ring
