The five officers, all of whom are Black, were fired from the Memphis Police last week and will face second-degree murder charges, along with kidnapping, official misconduct and official oppression. “This tragedy meets the absolute definition of a needless and unnecessary death,” civil rights attorney Ben Crump said. Local authorities will release video footage of the traffic stop on Friday evening. Crump, acting for Nichols’ family, compared the footage to that of the 1991 police beating of Rodney King. The discovery is believed to be the oldest of a non-royal in Egypt.
