When Lynn Teague was the repatriation coordinator at the Arizona State Museum, she had to navigate the competing interests of 21 Native American tribes and their sacred duty to the dead, and private land owners, which included developers and mining companies. It was Teagueâs job as an archaeologist to thread a needle when it came to ownership of artifacts and access to burial grounds.
âI was often dealing with multiple claimants with varying degrees of willingness to work together,â says Teague.
