[Can Saudi Aramco’s IPO Bring Peace to the Middle East?](
Saudi Arabia needs stability to attract investors. That's creating a rare window for peace with Iran.
At the yellow desert stone convention center at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Riyadh, people were chatting about the potential size of what Saudi Arabia hopes will be the worldâs biggest-ever IPO. This was Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salmanâs end-of-October âDavos of the Desertâ conclave â formally called the Future Investment Initiative summit, held as Saudi Aramco, the Saudi oil giant, prepares to launch its IPO on Dec. 4, expecting to fetch $25 billion in investment.
Just six weeks earlier, the cautiously optimistic conversations around the Aramco IPO at the Riyadh summit would have been hard to imagine. When a series of deafening explosions rocked the worldâs largest refinery in Abqaiq, Saudi Arabia, in the early hours of Sept. 14, fresh regional conflict appeared only hours away. Fire also rained on the oil collection center of Khurais. As the smoke and haze cleared from the sprawling oil facilities, Saudi Arabiaâs oil managers realized that they had lost 85 percent of their daily production. Yet even as the U.S. and Israel quickly blamed Iran for the attacks, Saudi Arabia held its horses, reluctant to name Tehran.

[Meet the Democratsâ Hired Impeachment Gun](
Barry Berke put his corporate law career on hold to weave together the strands of impeachment on the House Judiciary Committee.
Barry Berke had a complicated case on his hands. His client, SAC Capital Advisors fund manager Michael Steinberg, had been arrested for insider trading. The bespectacled, Harvard-educated attorney had to distill a complex set of facts into a simple argument infused with certainty. âCaught in the crossfire of aggressive investigations of others, there is no basis for even the slightest blemish on his spotless reputation,â Berke told the press.
A jury convicted Steinberg, who was sentenced to three and a half years in prison, but the charges were tossed out on appeal, in part because of Berkeâs ability to make the case that the governmentâs prosecution, via a chain of informants, was overzealous. Now, U.S. House Democrats are counting on Berke to weave together the strands of evidence for a compelling narrative about a much different aggressive government action. The goal: to impeach the president of the United States.

[Belgium, Where the State Pays $2 Billion for Your Housecleaner](
It's a popular scheme â but a costly one too.
A couple of years ago, a time-tracking exercise made me realize that, after work and sleep, cleaning my flat was the one activity I spent most of my time on. Seeing on paper that I spent more time with my microfiber cloths than with the people or Netflix shows I cared about was a bit disheartening. It was time, I decided, to do what many of my millennial friends had already done. I, a childless twentysomething living in a modestly sized, one-bedroom flat, would get a cleaner.
In Belgium, that’s a little more guilt-free than it might be if I were living elsewhere. In 2004, Belgium instituted a heavily subsidized service voucher system specifically for the cleaning industry. People like me can buy vouchers online to pay for a domestic worker’s services. The cleaners end up getting paid $12 per hour on average, but consumers only shell out around $8 per hour (depending on which region of Belgium they live in). The government pays the rest of the tab.

[Prepare for the Future of the Workplace](
It wasnât that long ago that âgoing to workâ meant heading out to the fields â in fact, not even a century ago, 90 percent of work took place on farms. Then came factories and offices, telecommuting and shared âworkspace solutions.â The change has been revolutionary, transforming everything about how and where we work, and the pace isnât slowing down.
Weâve been told that robots will take away our jobs, but sci-fi predictions aside, what does the future hold? With the advent of artificial intelligence and machine learning, will certain human skills become even more crucial? Better communication, greater creativity and emotional intelligence are just some of the tools for navigating the decades to come. Sure, the robots may be coming, but uniquely human traits will be the driver of success in the workplace of the future. [Read more.](
