Friend, people in East Africa have been anxiously anticipating October’s arrival. After enduring four consecutive failed rainy seasons, they are desperate for some relief. Sadly, current forecasts show that East Africa’s worst drought in 40 years is likely to persist for yet another season. We’ve already seen the catastrophic effects of these conditions — one person is likely dying of hunger every 48 seconds in Ethiopia and Kenya. And in Somalia, famine is looming. Oxfam has been working with local organizations to reach more than two million people across the region with lifesaving water, food, cash grants, hygiene kits, tools, and so much more. In addition to our ongoing humanitarian response, we’re calling for leaders of wealthy, industrialized nations to reckon with their country’s role in creating and perpetuating the climate crisis. No one person can prevent a drought but — despite our sounding the alarm on this crisis for the last two years — we’re witnessing yet another example of how the system is failing the world’s most vulnerable people. Friend, our teams will continue to monitor the situation on the ground and report back with more information. [Take this time to learn more about Oxfam’s response to the hunger crisis in East Africa.](113/cssrH04/VXjsXY6T-2cYV9gw9v3Y81t3VwDG2D4QLFPSN8kT_C95nCW9V3Zsc37CgQ4lW3N6H5y5cs22sN4cq2SgNxGXQW8dqwY57XZwtQV1sRYV23CBs3W8HBvHB6KpfznW3DxqDf11mjZwW2Jd9KB6fXRnZW409P5279v5TvW2m8B4h56NSHdN4Dx4vmPM2C_N46-_tpFTtfwW6f049h151D46W6-bmVs4YdGclW7cGwBH7WBvGyN5wvKfJT31TkVfSBWG3_lhXkW90KdqP7ZPy_hW1s6W2F7xf5KJW8bY7wn4vyVmPW6JzLd83k4jNdW5_Qnzm49nHb7W8_6GNF6TKFCNW6ZDySn6VsQNQW1SsqDG71gpZmW5FWzkM5MPxv2W7kKg5h64NJRSW1gD1GN49PmrBW7sQ8pn6nbVBJW7pNq-p5ZkXrjW55B3Lf4wWjbvMJYVMY_XvWLW5NChhf4w-xk3W6XMR6_5w9PdfW5DC6dX7D7R10W9jJBL388mg8xW8Y43398V1wSmVXTs1r5nBcHWW67HkHT5CTh9HW5p3zKD7YHc5jW8l1J8X3hK3NzW1ygcVT6JvmtYW8N-R7x8X7ysF3hhR1) [Read More](113/cssrH04/VXjsXY6T-2cYV9gw9v3Y81t3VwDG2D4QLFPSN8kT_C95nCW9V3Zsc37Cg-c1VCc9QS5LzgNKW2JRhRg3d5MJTW5gC6nl29h20yW1lKXPn8BvtM8W3SpLgs2FH079W5rdKqj31w6ZgVVLC5w8Ly3P7W80J-Dy5brDzKW5K2nH-6kWGynVG5JyL4J-BGtW2glSvl7FsGF5VtRl54226XDJW7sWJ-R318YCkW83TcWM2Yb-JWVr6gw68k8tKnN2mr4_y5t7D0W5sgDgK2WHDHkVsdzjv2zy4VDW2z78Yp4yNFLZN5kh4GgrLqZlW6kv8-L7LxcTzW8csn0N7Vlfq0W5jHND65rRQ2WW4Cd4162q4W6gW4L3DnH8kmhxFW3_rJfz5xG2vFW7t1l_Y80KB9TW4DxGr946tJPcV_CZtS1VHbRhW6G7XpQ2029MPN6SZlTg6wyzpW8z_YcL6SvnG8W7gxG-181jRdyW6HBbsW7zBK2BW6RJ0Rc9f47BlW7tXXvM8bPyb2W8yznZr5M9F1NN7fHJdVfbK4yW7_tS4-6tYZ9QVZ6Gr155L3HXW1Nm2-n8jt0r6W4CT6Nb50WtCl3m0C1) This email was sent to {EMAIL}. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
