[image] Pattern day trade account values do not have to limit you. If you are an Options Trading Alert Service subscriber or are considering becoming a subscriber and thought you were limited to needing $25,000 in your account, here is some information that will help you. This is based on information from our broker, E*Trade, so be sure to confirm the set up of your account with your broker. Margin accounts requires a maintained minimum account balance of $25,000 to day trade. Cash accounts, on the other hand, do not track day trades. Instead, settlements are tracked in cash accounts. When you sell shares, there is a required settlement period. The settlement period is the trade date plus 2 business days. If you sell a new position you bought with unsettled funds before they settle, it's considered a good faith violation, and funds are put on hold until settlement for that trade. If you feel a cash account may be better suited for you, contact your broker for more information. Want to keep your margin account but don't have a minimum account balance of $25,000? Use the button below to find out how to lock in profit to avoid a day trade.
