Option Pit Stop [fstp, logo, header] May 30, 2024 [ag views, logo, header] Mortimer and Randolph have a bet [ded]Mark and I had a bit of a disagreement about where VIX was going post Trump trial. I said it would be a 2 point swing either way. He said no way, it wonât even swing a $1. I took the $1 move in VIX for $1 post-Trump verdict. We did have a bad bond auction but the market knows the Treasury is issuing massive blocks of bonds. [ded] 3 day VIX chart Anyway, we shall see soon enough but underlying market moves are very muted. I still think VIX is way lower in 24 hours post verdict or way higher on a guilty. My .02. - AG  [logo, pit profits] Want to find YOUR winning fit? In the fall of 2023 I got some Chewy Inc (Ticker: CHWY) shares for $21.70. I started writing 1 x 2 call spreads against the stock and watched it peak by the end of 2023 around $25. I figured it would be easy sailing and a few buy writes and short puts to run the wheel trade and I would be on Easy Street. Well it did not work that way. The stock was as low as $16 a couple of days ago. I know because I was writing 1 x 2 put spreads for credits. Anything to generate some bucks until CHWY came back to life. [ded](CHWY 1 year chart with 30, 60 and 90 day implied volatility With the stock in the high 17s around $17.70 I did do something to goose up the leverage a bit. I think the stock was going higher and having my 500 shares sit around where I could not write any calls was annoying. The 1 x 2 put spreads were ok but the stock was not going anywhere either. Happenings  Hey Influence Traders, Here is the fourth installment of our 5-part Capitol Gains series. In the last article, we reviewed how actual and proposed legislation, as well as executive actions, impacted stocks over the past few years and how such government action shaped market trends. People always ask me what I read to stay up to date on whatâs happening inside the government (in addition to private meetings ð), so in this article we are going to look at the sources I use to maintain my inside edge on whatâs happening in D.C. Introduction Staying informed about developments in Washington D.C., the military, and related sectors is crucial for making strategic investment decisions. The right sources of information can provide timely and accurate updates on policy changes, legislative actions, and other events that influence the financial markets. In addition to the usual suspects, like the NYTimes, the Wall Street Journal, etc., Iâve got some go-to publications. In this fourth installment of our marketing series, we will explore the best sources of information that keep you updated on what is happening in D.C., the military, and key industries. Leveraging these resources allows you to gain insights and stay ahead in the fast-paced world of finance. The Hill The Hill is a premier source for news and analysis on politics and policy. It covers a wide range of topics, including congressional activities, legislative developments, and political events. Key features include: - Daily, Detailed Coverage: The Hill provides in-depth reporting on all aspects of Capitol Hill, from bill introductions to committee hearings and votes.
- Expert Analysis:Â The publication offers expert opinions and analysis from pundits and insiders, providing context and insights into the implications of political developments.
- Breaking News:Â With real-time updates and breaking news alerts, The Hill ensures Iâm always informed about the latest happenings in D.C. For me, The Hill is invaluable for tracking policy changes and legislative actions that can influence market trends. Politico Politico is known for its in-depth reporting and analysis on political developments, policy debates, and government affairs. It is a go-to source for understanding the intricacies of Washington politics. Key features include: - Insider Perspectives:Â Politico offers insider views and detailed reporting on the inner workings of government, including insights into legislative strategies and political dynamics.
- Policy Focus:Â The publication covers a broad range of policy areas, including healthcare, energy, defense, and financial regulation.
- Daily Newsletters:Â Politicoâs daily newsletters, such as Politico Playbook, provide concise and comprehensive updates on the dayâs top political stories and events. Politico helps me understand the politicians that are on each side of debates, which provides insight into how the political landscape will impact the flow of capital to the financial markets. Defense News Defense News provides detailed coverage of defense policies, military spending, and industry trends. It tells me which companies to keep an eye on when I go to conferences or attend policy briefings. Key features include: - Defense Policy Reporting:Â Defense News offers in-depth reporting on defense policies, military budgets, and strategic decisions.
- Industry Analysis:Â The publication provides analysis on defense contractors, technology developments, and procurement trends.Â
- Global Coverage: Defense News covers defense-related developments not just in the U.S. but also globally, providing a comprehensive view of the defense sector. I get great information from Defense News, but I always like to trust and verify from my own sources. In addition to friends in high places, I find great insight in âThe War Zoneâ and the âAssociation of the U.S. Armyâ magazines. Federal Register The Federal Register is the official journal of the federal government, publishing executive orders, proposed rules, and public notices. It is an indispensable source for tracking regulatory changes. Key features include: - Official Documentation: The Federal Register provides official documentation of government actions, including executive orders, agency rules, and public notices. It lists the bills as written ⦠not per MSM interpretation.
- Regulatory Updates:Â The publication is a primary source for understanding new regulations and policy changes that can impact various industries.
- Searchable Database:Â The Federal Registerâs online database is searchable, making it easy to find relevant information on specific topics or regulations. The Federal Register is essential for tracking regulatory changes and understanding their potential market impacts. It helps me weed out the rumor from fact trades. Bloomberg Government Bloomberg Government provides comprehensive coverage of government actions and their economic impacts. It offers analysis, news, and insights on legislation, regulations, and government spending. Key features include: - Data-Driven Analysis:Â Bloomberg Government integrates data analysis with reporting, providing a quantitative perspective on government actions and their economic implications.
- Legislative Tracking:Â The platform offers tools to track legislative developments, including bill progress, voting records, and sponsor information.Â
- Economic Impact Analysis: Bloomberg Government provides analysis on the economic impacts of government decisions. Bloomberg Government does the best job tying in government action and Wall Street impact (next to Capitol Gains, of course). My Contacts You always have to save the best for last, and my best source of information is my rolodex. Trust but verify ⦠and I trust little about the news I see on TV. I am blessed to be invited to board meetings and think tanks that others are not. I also attend many national security conferences and closed-door sessions. Those meetings put tremendous context around the rhetoric coming out of Capitol Hill. And that gives me an edge. Conclusion Access to reliable sources of information is essential for understanding developments in Washington D.C., the military, and related sectors. Publications like The Hill, Politico, Defense News, the Federal Register, and Bloomberg Government provide timely and accurate updates that are crucial for making informed investment decisions. By leveraging these resources, I can stay ahead of the curve and capitalize on opportunities driven by government actions and policy changes. In the next part of our series, we will explore the top five most likely investment trends over the next six months based on recent announcements in D.C. Stay tuned as we continue to uncover the intricacies of government actions and their influence on the financial markets. - Frank --------------------------------------------------------------- Get all your DC Insider info inside of Frank Gregory's "Power Movies" Newsletter. [Click this link to sign up!]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Don't miss when our traders go live!
