Option Pit Stop [fstp, logo, header] May 10, 2024 [ag views, logo, header] Can the market makers be right? We had a lively discussion about realized volatility in the Trading Desk today. The question is how can VIX go lower than it already has? Right now the liquidity provider already thinks that. How do I know? That is what they are charging. VIX today is 12.72. That is a 30 day forward looking volatility number. 10 day realized in the SPX, the VIX calculation from SPX options, is 13.42. Traders are already pricing the next 30 days as less volatile than the last 10.  [ded] Part of that might be some of the parabolic upside is out of stocks. We can rally just not 2% a day in a gap. There is a CPI/PPI number next week and traders think they know what it is. It will be just hot enough to keep the lid from blowing off the top of SPX. - AG  [logo, pit profits] Want to find YOUR winning fit? There is a recording and a slide deck available that gives my exact pitchfork pivot points in a lot of the major stocks. Call Ted and maybe he will sell it to you [888-872-3301](tel:/1-888-872-3301). Better yet as an Option Shopper, you will get all my pitchfork pivot points in any stocks you choose. So as I was explaining to the class, one of the guys that collaborated on the pitchfork strategy back in the 1920s (these guys were literally drawing charts by hand!) predicted and gave warning of the 1929 stock market crash and the following depression. His name is Roger Babson. What I didn’t realize was that the 1987 crash was the biggest crash of all. The market was down 22.8% in one day. I was there! I remember it like yesterday. I was in the Kmart (TIcker: KM), McDonald’s (Ticker: MCD), and Haliburton (TIcker: HAL) trading pit on the Cboe as a market maker clerk. There was one point in the day when we all just stood there watching the market literally collapse, all trading had stopped, and we all had tears in our eyes. It was almost surreal. My husband was trading in the S&P 100 (Ticker: OEX) pit at the time and he remembers it the same way: trading stopped and people literally had tears in their eyes. He said, “We all thought the market was going to zero.†Pretty crazy. I hadn’t thought about that day in a long time.
