[Trading With Larry Benedict]( Data Is Keeping the Fed on Its Toes By the Opportunistic Trader Editorial Team From high hopes of serious rate cuts… to suspicion whether the Fed will manage to cut at all in 2024. Interest rate expectations have come a long way this year. And the latest data aren’t making the Fed’s job any easier. Personal consumption expenditures (PCE) rose by 2.7% in the past year (through March). That was slightly more than anticipated… and shows how inflation remains sticky. Earlier this week, though, the gross domestic product (GDP) came in at 1.6%... which was a sharp fall from last quarter’s 3.4% growth. The Fed continues to maneuver for a soft landing. But as we can see, the situation is precarious. JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon chimed in this week with his take: When I look at the range of possible outcomes… I’m a little more worried it may not be so soft and inflation may not quite go away as people expect. I’m not talking about this year – I’m talking about 2025 or 2026. So we won’t get complacent yet. These conditions could stick around for a while. But no matter what happens with inflation… interest rates… or the economy overall, we’ll keep bringing you the best trading insights around.
