Buildings collapsed, more tha= n 55,00 people died and [millions were displaced=](3D"=) from their homes. =C2=A0 Two of these displaced people were Samih and Maria.= an> =C2=A0 When the earthquake struck, the couple was in their apa= rtment building. They ran down the stairs with their two-year-old son and t= heir newborn. =E2=80=9CIt was an awful night. In 13 years of war we nev= er had anything resembling the horror we felt, condensed into that minute a= nd a half,=E2=80=9D Maria says. =C2=A0 Maria wipes away tears as she remembers that night. But= then she says something surprising: =E2=80=9CIn a way, that earthquake= was a blessing; yes, it was a blessing for us and many Syrians like us.=E2= =80=9D =C2=A0 And your gifts and prayers were a huge part of = the reason!
