To Those Grieving Their Mom Today

She passed away in November, just nine days before her 94th birthday. How do I even do that? Mother’s Day has always been as much about MY Mom for me as it is about me to my children. How do I let her know how much I love and appreciate her on this special day when she is no longer with me? As if listening to my thoughts, my dearest Mother told me exactly what I could do for her this Mother’s Day and every single day after that (no holiday required). I could hear her as clearly as if she were sitting right next to me saying, “Jill, if you really want to make me happy, help others.” My Mother was my shining example of unconditional love. She never met a stranger she didn’t end up helping make their lives a little better. So this Sunday instead of missing my mom (even more than I already do) I am going to try to emulate her instead and serve others in simple ways I know she would approve of. I’ve been learning how to make sourdough bread over the last few weeks, and if I do say so myself, it’s pretty darn good! I can think of a couple of people right off the bat who I can share with. And since my Mom knows my life-long struggle with baking projects involving yeast, I can almost hear her laughter and see her beautiful face beaming with happiness! If your mother isn’t around anymore to celebrate with in person, may I suggest instead of focusing on the loss we feel, we reach out in big and small ways in celebration of her!
