I visited a federal detention center in SeaTac, Washington earlier this month - what I saw and heard was horrifying and inhumane.

Earlier this month, I demanded access to a Federal Detention Center in SeaTac, Washington to visit with 174 immigrant women being held inside.
What I heard was horrifying and heartbreaking:
These women spoke of fleeing threats of rape, gang violence, and political persecution.
They spoke of their children, young girls and boys, who were taken from them with no chance to say goodbye, and no plan for reunification.
[This is not who we are, friend. Speak out with OFA, and they'll plug you into actions you can take right away to put a stop to this cruel and inhumane policy of family separation.](
We must be clear: this administration is lying when they conflate immigrants coming across the border with MS-13 gangs. The women I met with are survivors, not perpetrators, of criminal violence in their home countries.
They came to the United States because they believed it was a country where they would be treated with dignity and respect, but we're failing them.
Over one third of the women held in the SeaTac detention center have been forcibly separated from their children who range in age from 1-year-old to teenagers.
The vast majority of them have not spoken with their children in weeks, and they have no idea where they are.
What I saw in that detention center is simply not who we should be.
This policy of family separation is cruel and inhumane, and we cannot allow it to continue on our watch. Speak up with OFA, and commit to getting involved in this fight right now:
