From the team at NZ House & Garden Hi {NAME}, The houses and gardens that feature in NZ House & Gard

From the team at NZ House & Garden [NZ House & Garden] [NZ House & Garden - From the Editor]( Hi {NAME}, The houses and gardens that feature in NZ House & Garden are often a result of passion – whether it’s for interiors, family, plants or places. This issue is a great example of what drives home and garden owners. My predecessor, Sally Duggan, was editor of NZ House & Garden for about a decade, and we're delighted to take you into Sally’s own home this month – a property that’s been in the family for decades. Renovating the house, which began life as a humble bach-like dwelling, was an exciting and all-consuming project for Sally and her husband Nick. It kicked off with five words Sally wrote on a Post-it note expressing her vision: casual, calm, retro, modest, interesting. Contrasting in size, a home in Christchurch is an extraordinary abode full of treasures sourced locally and overseas, a testament to the owners love of seeking out special pieces. Another couple who have created their dream home are self-confessed Francophiles Tracy Rutherfurd and Nic Holland whose historic and lavish three-storey townhouse in the south-west of France is an ode to all things French. Finally, our feature garden is a simple suburban plot in Kāpiti, utterly transformed with a wildflower-style profusion of colour and what the owner calls “a sea of flowers”. They’re all a lesson in how following our passions can have wonderful results. [Naomi Larkin] Naomi Larkin Editor [Naomi Larkin] Naomi Larkin Editor     In our February issue   From the heart in Auckland Former NZ House & Garden editor Sally Duggan unveils the reimagining of her beloved North Shore home in our February issue, out now. The house, which has been in the family for more than 70 years, was once a tiny one-bedroom dwelling and had been added to over the years. Now, after a major renovation, the hodgepodge of buildings has been knitted together, giving a feeling of more space. True romance in France The Kiwi owners of Auckland vintage and antiques furniture and homeware store Romantique found their dream home in France and divide their time between New Zealand and Villeneuve-sur-Lot. They were won over by the single photo on the property's for sale ad of a magnificent spiral staircase, and when they saw the late-19th century townhouse they fell in love with its other original features too.     A collector's edition in Canterbury A Christchurch couple have a history of discovering gorgeous things, including this grand and unusual home in Fendalton – our latest issue's Home of the Month. It is built like "a fortress", with deep foundations, thick masonry walls and Ōamaru stone cladding, and the couple have stamped their own style on the home, modernising, enhancing and embellishing its unique elements inside and out. See it in our February issue, out now.   Sponsored content Try a playful pattern Create a beautiful feature in your room with a patterned fabric.
