From the team at NZ House & Garden [NZ House & Garden] [NZ House & Garden - From the Editor]( Hi {NAME}, We’re on the home straight and the finish line for many of us is at the end of the week: holidays. I don’t know anyone who isn’t absolutely ready for a break as this year has been challenging in so many ways. Wherever you are planning to be, for the festive season and into the New Year, I hope you can both rest and have fun. And of course make a date with your favourite magazine because our January issue, on sale today, is focused on holidays – on homes created with easy-living in mind. It’s hard not to be wowed by our cover house with its inviting pool that also provides a ringside seat for glorious views out over sleepy Cass Bay near Christchurch. And when you read that the pool is kept at a steady 29C to get lots of use year-round, it’s understandable to have more than a modicum of #houseenvy. And for those of us who live in Tāmaki Makaurau, our Home of the Month will also provoke desire with its swimming pool, creative pool house and ample deck space that perfectly captures afternoon sun – all located in an inner city suburb. Continuing with our Kiwis Living Abroad series we’ve found a fantastic London terraced home that defies the idea that English houses are not geared up for summer. Owned by a Kiwi lawyer and her partner, it skilfully melds the original brick terrace construction with modern extensions at ground and loft levels. The couple’s renovations have cleverly married the old and new, enlarged the house at the rear, let the sunshine in, made greater use of the back garden and gained upper views over the rooftops of London. Hopefully time out for those who enjoy cooking means a less hurried pace and if that’s you, then our food editor Julier Le Clerc’s seafood dishes are reason enough to buy this issue. Happy holidays. [Naomi Larkin] Naomi Larkin Editor [Naomi Larkin] Naomi Larkin Editor   In our January issue   Top of the bay near Christchurch A seaside home in sleepy Cass Bay has been transformed with a designer renovation. Tucked at the bottom of a steep driveway, the house looks compact and intriguing with its angled, asymmetric entry and layered forms. Once you're inside, the view opens out over decks and a pool to wide sea vistas. Above and beyond in the UK The latest home in our Kiwis Living Abroad series showcases a classic Victorian terrace house in North London with striking contemporary additions. Owned by a Kiwi lawyer and her Slovenian partner, the home has bold geometric extensions which aren't visible from the street. It features in our January issue, out now.     Ultimate DIY creates a stylish beach-style Auckland pad These homeowners put themselves on the tools to create a Kingsland home’s laid-back look. Frustrated at being unable to relay their creative vision to the tradies charged with the project, they took matters into her own hands – literally – picking up the tools and doing the work themselves, learning on the job. See it in our new issue, on sale now.   Sponsored content Black magic in Riverhead Scott and Amber wanted a clean, modern aesthetic, so chose Stria™ Cladding for the top and bottom levels of their modern home and painted it black.
