[padding] Hi {NAME},
Â
The world seems to be in a spiral right now with so many things – crazy weather patterns, record high inflation, Covid, war – all coming together at once, which makes it feel like joy is thin on the ground. I guess that’s where cliches like “stop and smell the roses” come to the fore. My suggested idiom equivalent would be “stop and read NZ House & Garden” because the act of just taking time out, sitting down and reading something you enjoy will lift your spirits. Our August issue, on sale now, is full of Kiwi stories, from our Meet the Maker Bonco, aka Paul Nathan, whose abstract geometric artworks will inspire, fashion doyenne Elisabeth Findlay who co-founded iconic New Zealand label Zambesi in 1979, through to our homeowners and gardeners from across the motu who have poured love and time into their properties with spectacular results. This month's homeowners in particular have defined luxe living via their personal style – from the lavish wallpapers, chandeliers and plush velvets of the revamped Old Eltham Post Office to the relaxed glamour of our Home of the Month, the historic Glen Aros Estate in Hawke’s Bay, complete with a large billiard room, resort-style pool, stables and horses. Then there are our food creatives' delicious contributions – food editor Julie Le Clerc’s recipes that transform humble grains and pulses into nourishing comforting dishes, along with Maite Paternain’s five decadent ways with creme fraîche. So forget the craziness for a while and enjoy our new issue. [padding]

[spacer] All are welcome here
[padding] Friends, family and even horses are given a warm reception at historic Glen Aros Estate in Hawke's Bay, which has been given a head-to-toe renovation by its latest residents. The horse-mad owners have even built new stables which passers-by are encouraged to use. See it in our new issue, on sale now.  [spacer]
[spacer] Stamp of approval
[padding] Another heritage building given new life is the former Eltham Post Office in Taranaki, built in 1905. The couple who bought it saw the dilapidated building for sale when they were here on holiday from Australia and over the past couple of years have turned it into their home and a B&B, doing much of the work themselves. [spacer] The castle on the sand in Taranaki
[padding] A spectacular art-filled home with floor-to-ceiling windows matches its dramatic setting on a double beachfront site in Åakura. The couple have also collected an impressive array of iconic furniture, such as Charles Rennie Mackintosh chairs and Arco floor lamps, which sit happily in the house alongside its modern fittings. See it in our August issue.  [padding]
