[NZ House & Garden]( Hi {NAME}, Some years back when I was editor of a different magazine I went to dinner at the Waiheke Island home of Andrew and Kim Rae. The meal was delicious, the company fun and I liked the whole style of relaxed living the couple embraced and which their home enabled. Both global citizens, they immigrated to New Zealand in 2007 and two years later, “charmed by 4ha of land which stretches across hillsides strung with olive trees and grapevines”, bought the property they call home. There is much to admire in the way the Raes have combined treasured objects and furniture that all have personal meaning with the existing house and with a more modern extension they completed three years ago. Dubbed Cypress Ridge Estate, it is just one of the interesting and lovely homes you’ll find in the April issue of NZ House & Garden, on sale now. The new issue also has a kitchen focus with a careful edit of what we see as this year’s hottest trends. From light and bright to dark and natural, the styles are varied with stone benchtops, timber flooring, bold paint accents, textures, curves and pendant lights offering something for all tastes. We’ve also rounded up a selection of practical and quirky dinner plates and stylish glassware to shop for, along with the latest homeware – all to help make that busy kitchen hub a more delightful space. Along with recently released beverages, we’ve also chosen riesling wines for you to sample and our food specialist Maite Paternain has created six seductively decadent sweet treats to make. All this and more in the April issue of NZ House & Garden, in stores now. Naomi Larkin Editor In our April issue The heritage villa with a twistThanks to bi-zonal planning laws, the tricky reimagining of a historic Auckland property was deftly handled by its owners. They could see the site's potential and the resulting home is a successful merger of the old with the new — they've even managed to get more garden. See it in our latest issue, available in stores now. Embracing island time After years of living and travelling around the world, Auckland’s Waiheke Island is now home for a family who fell in love with New Zealand while holidaying here and vowed to return. Their idyllic Onetangi home, which has a Mediterranean feel with a Pacific outlook, has magnificent views and is filled with family keepsakes. Relaxed living at a bespoke home in Christchurch After years of building their own houses, a Christchurch couple changed their approach and decided to renovate instead. Their Redcliffs home took six months to transform and has achieved their goal of being "casual and comfortable" and better suited to their lifestyle. See what they've created in our April issue.
