We have family ties to Allensworth which was the first black settlement in California. My family meets in Allensworth every Juneteenth to connect to our past and celebrate our present. It's a very small area that has turned into a state park to commemorate the first settlers in 1906. There is a center where you can watch a video about the origins and there are a few buildings to explore.
