[Your Thursday Evening Briefing](
By KAREN ZRAICK AND SANDRA STEVENSON
Good evening. Hereâs the latest.
Shannon Stapleton/Reuters
1. âMust-see TV.â
[Americans gathered]( across the nation to watch the live broadcast of [James Comey, the fired F.B.I. director]( testifying at an extraordinary Senate Intelligence Committee hearing. Above, Times Square.
Mr. Comey accused President Trump of lying and trying to derail the inquiry into his former adviser, Michael Flynn, squarely raising the question of whether Mr. Trump tried to [obstruct justice](.
Here are the [highlights of the hearing]( and the [video and transcript](.

2. President Trumpâs personal lawyer, [Marc Kasowitz, above, shot back]( that Mr. Trump had never tried to end the Flynn investigation. He denied that Mr. Trump ever sought a loyalty pledge from Mr. Comey, as we had reported.
And Republicans tried to get on with their work. In the House, they passed a bill to [gut the Dodd-Frank Act]( the financial regulations enacted after the 2008 financial crisis.

3. Results from Britainâs general election are expected within hours, and exit polls suggest that Theresa May and the Conservatives may lose their majority. [Hereâs what to look for](. Above, voting in London.
The two main candidates, Ms. May and the Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn, [waged a surprisingly nasty campaign]( that was meant to be about Brexit, but shifted to security after the terrorist attacks in Manchester and London.

4. Iran released information about the [deadly attacks in Tehran]( claimed by the Islamic State, as the death toll rose to 17, with 52 others wounded.
The governmentâs portrayal suggested the five assailants were Iranian nationals. Above, surveillance photos captured the attack.
Iranâs foreign minister denounced as ârepugnantâ President Trumpâs response, which mourned the deaths but added: âWe underscore that states that sponsor terrorism risk falling victim to the evil they promote.â

Scott McIntyre for The New York Times
5. Tens of thousands of Venezuelans have left for the U.S. in the past few years, fleeing violence, unemployment and shortages of food, medicine and gas.
Our [bureau chief in Miami reports]( that the political conflicts in Venezuela are now playing out in the Florida suburbs. Antigovernment protesters are forming flash mobs at the homes and businesses of figures linked to the government, and posting the videos online.
Above, a protest in Miami against Goldman Sachs for its dealings with the Venezuelan government.

6. Day 4 of the [trial of Bill Cosby]( on sexual assault charges came and went without any sign of his wife, Camille, which may not sit well with jurors. The major prosecution witnesses have finished testifying.
Our gender issues correspondent says the two days of[testimony â and challenges to the credibility â of his accuser, Andrea Constand]( âcaptured the dynamics that make sexual assault cases so polarizing and so resonant.â

7. Take a lap in the worldâs most dangerous race.
The [Isle of Man Tourist Trophy]( an annual motorcycle event, has few parallels in global sports.
Speeds routinely exceed 200 miles per hour, and the proven likelihood of fatalities lies at the heart of the appeal, for drivers and the crowds that cheer them on.
Above, Joey Dunlop, who won a record 26 events at the Tourist Trophy before his death at another race in Estonia two decades ago.
_____
Universal Pictures
8. In theaters this weekend: [âThe Mummy,â Universalâs reboot of its monster franchise]( which our critic calls âan unholy mess.â (Its best attribute, he adds, is being 20 minutes shorter than the last film he panned, âPirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.â)
Starring Tom Cruise, the film features âchasing and fighting, punctuated by bouts of breathless explaining and a few one-liners that an archaeologist of the future might tentatively decode as jokes,â A.O. Scott writes.
_____
Kathy Lo for The New York Times
9. A little advice for creative types from [the comedian Aziz Ansari]( âPeople have no imagination for what your talent is beyond what they see from you.â
Thatâs why he had to start his own show, the hit Netflix series âMaster of None,â in which he writes, directs and acts, he said. Having wrapped up Season 2, heâs plotting his next moves (and being compared to 1970s-era Woody Allen).
âIâm in the middle of trying to figure out Season 34 of Aziz Ansari,â he said.
_____
Hunter McRae for The New York Times
10. Finally, letâs get away from Washington and the news cycle for a while.
Our travel sectionâs new U.S. Islands issue celebrates the charming, often dreamy life to be found off American coasts and within its lakes.
We start off in [Cumberland Island, Georgiaâs largest]( and wildest barrier island, which offers memorable meals, fine fishing, secluded beaches and a rich history. Inhale, exhale.
Have a great night.
