[Join Today!]( Along with celebrations for our 125th anniversary, we have some big plans for this year at The New York Public Library: - We have partnered with the City in this year's census, with many of our branch locations participating to ensure a fair and accurate count of our great and diverse city. - We will launch a new library card type to ensure that even the most vulnerable New Yorkers can sign up for cards without concerns for their privacy. - We will open our first permanent exhibition in November: the Polonsky Exhibition of The New York Public Library's Treasures, which will make public for the first time some of the most important items in the Library's collection. - We have set a public goal for the people of New York City: to read more. Through a variety of institution-wide initiatives, including a program that kicked off New Year's Day to read at least 20 minutes every day, we're aiming to encourage at least 100,000 people to read more in 2020. And above all, as we have done for the past 125 years, The New York Public Library will uphold our radical promise to the people of New York City: that access to books, knowledge, and opportunity should be free and open for all. Will you be a part of our anniversary year? [Join the Friends of the Library & save $10—this week only.]( When you join, you become part of the Library and all that we offer. From the opening of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library in May to our renewed commitment to holding more bilingual and inclusive programming for families with young children, we will spend the next year reaffirming and acting on our core values of trust, inclusion, respect, and free and open access to all of our resources. [Stand with us in our anniversary year by joining today.]( I'm honored to be a part of the first 125 years of The New York Public Library's history. I hope you feel the same way.
