([Watch Dr. Gregerâs message]( [Donate Today]( [Focus: Antioxidantes]( Focus: Antioxidants Aging and disease have been thought of as the oxidation of the body. Those brown age spots on the back of your hands? Theyâre just oxidized fat and protein under the skin. Oxidant stress is thought to be one reason why we all get wrinkles, why we lose some of our memory, and why our organ systems break down as we get older. Eating foods containing lots of antioxidants may help slow down this ârustingâ process. Check out the [topic page]( and watch videos like [Food Antioxidants and Cancer]( and [Antioxidants and Depression]( for more information. [Antioxidants]( [Recipe: Raspberry Power Balls
]( Recipe: Raspberry Power Balls As a group, berries average nearly 10 times more antioxidants than other fruits and vegetables, and they exceed 50 times more antioxidants than animal-based foods. They are the most healthful fruits, due in part to their colorful pigments, and are second only to herbs and spices as the most antioxidant-packed food category. These Raspberry Power Balls are so easy to make and full of delicious, wholesome ingredients. Get the [free recipe]( and watch a video on how itâs made on our [Instagram](. It follows an evidence-based, whole food, plant-based approach to eating to help people take back control of their health. [Visit their website]( for more information. âI am happy to be part of the NutritionFacts community. I started in April as a volunteer to answer questions on Instagram in Spanish. It motivates me to be part of a team that seeks to inform people, in a friendly, easy to understand, scientifically based, and non-profit way. Food is medicine and health, but, for this, you have to be duly informed to know how to choose it properly. My favorite plant-based recipe is waffles. To make the batter, in a blender, mix ¾ cup soy milk, 1 cup oats, 1 banana, 1 tablespoon of flaxseed and one of chia, ¼ cup cocoa powder and orange zest. Let the mixture rest for 15 minutes and then cook in a waffle maker (yields two waffles). Top with berries and peanut butter if youâd like.â
