This week, three Sudanese-American physicians wrote of [the experiences of doctors in their homeland]( -- like Dr. Attia Abdullah, who got a call that casualties from an airstrike were pouring into a Khartoum hospital. He set off immediately -- on foot. He was afraid of what might happen if he drove. His driver's license identifies him as a doctor and in this conflict, the warring generals and their supporters have threatened the lives of medical professionals. It took him 3 hours to cover 12 miles so he could tend to the wounded. "We were not prepared for the casualties we saw," Abdullah reflects.
