It's part of hip-hop history that isn't that widely known: a longstanding effort to deliver [public health messages via hip-hop rhymes.]( Correspondent Ari Daniel interviewed Dr. Olajide Williams, who helped craft the "stroke" lyrics back in 2005 working with Doug E. Fresh, aka "The Original Human Beat Box." Their goal: to teach people to detect stroke symptoms and respond appropriately. "We make the good and necessary things cool," says hip-hop artist Darryl "DMC" McDaniels (pictured above, center, with Senegalese rapper Sister Fa and Colombian rapper Ali A.K.A. Mind). That's what he told NPR about the ongoing effort to craft raps that tap into public health messages. "For instance, we can make going to get a colon checkup cool."
