Sudan Archives and Baby Rose share their favorites [View this email online]( [NPR Tiny Desk Contest]( So far on this year’s Top Shelf episodes, you’ve heard from the people who produce Tiny Desk concerts ([Bob Boilen and Bobby Carter]( and a music expert with an ear for up-and-coming talent ([Albina Cabrera of KEXP](. Now, it’s time to hear from the artist judges — the people who have played behind the Tiny Desk and know firsthand what it takes to shine there. Today on Top Shelf, Baby Rose and Sudan Archives will share their top picks with Bobby. Baby Rose [performed behind the Desk]( in early 2020; “This is what real love sounds like,” she said during her concert. She has a beautifully unique voice and is so talented that, when the pandemic shut down the NPR offices, we also asked her to do a [Tiny Desk (home) concert](. Her latest album, Through and Through, was released last week. That same year, Sudan Archives became the last artist to [perform at the Tiny Desk]( before the initial COVID lockdowns — and put on a one-of-a-kind show, singing and rapping along to her impressive violin playing. Late last month, she performed her acclaimed 2022 album Natural Brown Prom Queen at Coachella. We can’t wait to see which entries stood out to these judges. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
