Ron DeSantis. Massachusetts officials were outraged by the unannounced flight, calling it "[a secret plot]( to send immigrant families like cattle on an airplane." President Biden says a tentative labor deal has been reached that would avoid a devastating rail system strike. The agreement with workers, which includes "[better pay, improved working conditions, and peace of mind around their health care costs]( will go to the union for a vote. The White House is gathering experts, survivors and bipartisan local leaders for a summit to address hate-fueled violence. Today's "United We Stand Summit" will include remarks by Vice President Harris, a presentation on the state of hate-based violence in the United States and a [conversation with a former neo-Nazi]( who has disavowed the white supremacist movement. Residents of several states will vote in November on ballot measures that would change [how their elections are run](. The "Promote the Vote" proposal in Michigan includes expanding access to early voting, absentee ballots and ballot drop boxes, and a new process for voters who don't bring a photo ID. In Nevada, a citizen-led amendment would establish open primaries, in which candidates from all parties are on one ballot and the top five advance. Arizona, another key swing state, wants to add identification requirements to the voting process. Supplemental Security Income, a federal program meant to be a financial floor for people unable to work, hasn't kept pace with inflation, leaving many recipients [homeless and unable to save]( for an apartment.
