Find out our Contest judges’ favorite entries on Top Shelf today [View this email online]( [NPR Tiny Desk Contest]( We’ve been sharing [our favorite Contest entries]( for weeks, but when it comes to choosing a winner, it’s the judges’ top picks that really matter. This afternoon, we’ll kick off the first episode of Tiny Desk Contest Top Shelf, where Tiny Desk producer [Bobby Carter]( will join Bob Boilen, the man behind the Tiny Desk, to share the best entries he’s seen this year, from artists he thinks could be crowned this year’s winner. And, he’ll even be interviewing one of them live. (Ahem, it might be worth noting that last year on Top Shelf, [Bobby interviewed an artist]( who went on to win the Contest.) [Who will it be?]( Bobby’s taste in music is eclectic. He’s produced Tiny Desk concerts for big name artists like rappers [Anderson .Paak]( and [Noname]( plus gospel trailblazer [Kirk Franklin]( — and he also has an eye for up-and-coming artists, like folk R&B singer [Arlo Parks]( or virtuosic guitarist and songwriter [Melanie Faye](. We can’t wait to find out which Contest entries caught his attention. Find out with us live on NPR Music’s YouTube channel at 12 p.m. PT/ 3 p.m. ET today. You can sign up to [get a 15-minute reminder]( from us before we go live or [set your reminder now on YouTube](. We hope to see you there! [Join us]( Next week on Top Shelf, we’ll hear from [Phoebe Bridgers](. If there’s anything you’d like to learn about Phoebe — her writing process, how to [captivate an audience even in a small space]( how to [land a joke]( behind the Tiny Desk, her pug dog-inspired tattoo, etc. — let us know. --------------------------------------------------------------- Newsletter continues after sponsor message --------------------------------------------------------------- From our own tiny desks, NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest team P.S. Flesch reading score

Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
