The day after the debacle that was the first presidential debate, organizers say they’ll make changes to the format before the next event. Tuesday's televised debate was plagued by so many interruptions and cross-talk — mostly from President Trump — that many observers asked whether more could have been done to stop the chaos. Some asked [whether the debates should continue]( at all. President Trump signed a short-term spending bill into law early Thursday, averting a federal government shutdown. The short-term spending bill will [keep the government open]( through Dec. 11. Coronavirus relief is now the only major legislative goal remaining for Congress ahead of the election in November. United Airlines and American Airlines will furlough more than 32,000 employees today, saying they can't afford to have them on the payroll after Thursday – the expiration date for the federal CARES Act Payroll Support Program.
