This week the president-elect openly critiqued his party’s stance on ethics, warned them about Obamacare and continued to doubt U.S. intelligence assessments that Russia tried to influence the 2016 election. He seemed to at least concede that Russia (and other countries) do try hack U.S. institutions but he stressed that the outcome of the election was not affected. Congress is back! But it was off to a bumpy start, as House Republicans moved to weaken an independent congressional ethics office — only to reverse their decision after blowback, including from Trump. They also took the first step repealing Affordable Care Act, though they don’t yet have a plan to replace it.
