The Chicago Tribune reports the Trump administration wants to deploy 150 federal officers to Chicago to tamp down violence. Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot says [her city does not want secret federal agents]( who arrest and detain people without cause, [as has been done in Portland, Oregon](. Some local officials are calling the president’s plan an attack on democracy. Scientists say testing data from an early experimental coronavirus vaccine candidate is “encouraging.” In more than 1,000 people, the vaccine — developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University — spurred an immune response and had no severe side effects. [Larger trials are underway](. European Union leaders agreed Tuesday on a landmark $858 billion rescue package to help member states weather the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Negotiations over the plan had pitted some of the EU's strongest economies — including the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark and Austria — against the grouping's poorer countries, such as Spain and Italy, over [how the burden would be shared]( and under what conditions the money would be disbursed. The suspect in the shooting death of a judge's son was found dead from an apparent suicide on Monday. The FBI says attorney Roy Den Hollander allegedly shot and killed 20-year-old Daniel Anderl, and wounded Judge Esther Salas’ husband, Mark Anderl, on Sunday. Hollander was [a self-described anti-feminist]( lawyer who filed suits alleging that women get special treatment in violation of the Constitution. Medicare, the health insurance program for older Americans, is running out of money. [Fewer payroll taxes are coming in]( to fund Medicare spending, the number of people taking it is rising, and Congress used some Medicare money to help fund COVID-19 relief efforts this year. The white husband and wife who brandished guns as Black Lives Matter demonstrators marched through the couple's wealthy St. Louis community are facing felony charges.
