Facebook's new currency; Gelato from Mozambique; India's water crisis [NPR] editor's note Nichole Sobecki for NPR Over the past few weeks, I've been looking into the relationship between the humanitarian group Mercy Corps and a new digital currency incubated at Facebook called Libra. [Read the story here]( The currency says it aims to "reinvent" money by making a financial transaction as cheap and simple as "sending a text message or sharing a photo." Mercy Corps hopes that Libra can help solve some of the problems it faces in providing financial aid to people in need -- especially in conflict and disaster settings or countries in economic turmoil. But critics aren't so sure it's a good idea to for an aid group to team up with a controversial company like Facebook. They worry about the tech industry's "bait and switch" tactics.
