Here’s what we’re following today.
The U.S. Supreme Court handed down rulings Thursday in several important cases. The Court said [partisan redistricting is a political question]( not one that federal courts can weigh in on. In a major setback for the Trump administration, the court left [the citizenship question]( blocked for now from the 2020 census. They also ruled that police may, without a warrant, order [blood drawn from an unconscious person]( suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Ten Democratic presidential hopefuls clashed in their first televised debate of the 2020 election season in Miami. Here are [five takeaways]( from Wednesday night's debate.
The Federal Aviation Administration has found a new problem with Boeing's troubled 737 Max jets. Southwest, American and United Airlines, the three U.S. carriers that fly Max jets, have already [pulled the aircraft]( from their schedules through Labor Day weekend.
The Trump administration wants to scale back a program that protects undocumented family members of active-duty troops from being deported, according to attorneys familiar with those plans. Attorneys are racing to submit applications for [parole in place]( fearing protections will only be available under rare circumstances.

It happened in Senegal last week, at a conference organized by young Africans to address the issues of child marriage and female genital mutilation. Jaha Dukureh asked five influential imams to deliver [a fatwa against child marriage]( – a religious opinion issued by one or more Islamic legal scholars. The imans worked with Dukureh and her associates — all of them young advocates for women's empowerment — to write the text of the fatwa, which could have an impact on Islamic countries with high rates of child marriage.

The photo shows Ramírez's and Valeria's bodies lying face down. Valeria is tucked inside her father's T-shirt. The image first appeared in the Mexican newspaper La Jornada and has since been distributed by The Associated Press. The [traumatic image of the drowned father and daughter]( has gone viral on social media and renewed focus on immigration at the U.S.-Mexico border. Couscous is helping Northwest Africa recognize its shared culture.

In 2016, Algeria applied for couscous to be recorded on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list, which documents hundreds of cultural treasures from Egyptian hand puppetry to tango dancing in South America. The move was not without its detractors. Morocco also lays claim to couscous, and has a fraught history with Algeria. But instead of letting rivalries spiral, UNESCO delegations from Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Mauritania worked to present a joint bid to the U.N. agency. [Call it couscous diplomacy](.
