‘Car Talk’ is teaching medical students how to diagnose patients. [NPR] by Korva Coleman and Suzette Lohmeyer First Up [President Donald Trump meets North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019, in Hanoi. No deal was reached.]( Evan Vucci/AP Here’s what we’re following today. President Trump's summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un ended hours early without a deal. Kim is "totally" willing to [dismantle nuclear weapons in key areas but wants all sanctions removed first]( Trump said. There were five major revelations from Michael Cohen’s testimony to the House Oversight Committee. Trump’s former lawyer [detailed the lengths he went to in order to protect Trump]( — and his 2016 presidential campaign — from potential scandals, as well as to help inflate estimates of Trump's personal net worth. Republicans used the hearing to try to undercut Cohen, who has pleaded guilty to lying to Congress and will serve time in prison. The House passed the most significant gun legislation in 20 years, requiring background checks for all gun purchases, including those sold at gun shows and online. The National Rifle Association opposes the legislation, [and it faces major headwinds]( in the Republican-controlled Senate. The Supreme Court on Wednesday clarified the circumstances in which someone with a mental disability may be put to death. If a person with dementia can't understand the reason for his execution, the court held, [killing the prisoner is unconstitutional](. Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., reintroduced a bill on Thursday that would make marijuana legal at the federal level. It is the [latest progressive legislation embraced by White House contenders](. The Kremlin says Russian websites are constantly under cyberattack by the U.S., and that’s why Moscow is pursuing an autonomous Internet. The announcement followed a Washington Post report that the U.S. Cyber Command, in the midst of the 2018 midterm elections, [blocked Internet access to a St. Petersburg-based organization]( accused of spreading disinformation. Federal prosecutors charged 75 people in Puerto Rico with conspiring to smuggle and distribute vast amounts of narcotics. They allegedly [fed rival gang members to mini-crocodile-like animals](. President Trump's highly touted border wall prototypes were largely demolished on Wednesday morning to make way for a replacement barrier. The steel-and-concrete border wall prototypes near the San Diego-Tijuana border were [supposed to represent the "next generation" of border barriers](. --------------------------------------------------------------- The Daily Good Doctors are using Car Talk as a teaching tool. [In their classic radio show, Car Talk, hosts Ray and Tom Magliozzi, demonstrated what some doctors consider an ideal example of the thinking doctors need to learn to make a good medical diagnosis.]( Courtesy of Car Talk Car Talk’s step-by-step method of diagnosing car trouble can be applied to more than just your old, broken-down jalopy. A handful of physicians are using the show and the interview style of its famous hosts — brothers Ray and the late Tom Magliozzi, better known as "Click and Clack, the Tappet Brothers" — [to teach medical students how to diagnose disease](. --------------------------------------------------------------- Today's Listen New Orleans vs. Airbnb [Charlene Griffith stands outside the home she purchased and spruced up to make money through Airbnb.]( Alex Goldmark/NPR Charlene Griffith fixed up a blighted home in the historic New Orleans neighborhood of Treme, invested a lot in it and started renting it out to tourists for good money. But lots of other people also got in on Airbnb. So many homes have become mini-hotels that whole blocks — whole neighborhoods — are losing the thing that makes New Orleans, New Orleans: its residents. Planet Money takes a look at how New Orleans set out to help residents like Charlene build wealth, and then pulled the rug out from under them. [Melanie Keener stands outside the Storey County Courthouse in Virginia City, Nev., where she now works in a largely undefined security job. After filing a sexual harassment complaint against Sheriff Gerald Antinoro, Keener was removed from her position as the sheriff's chief deputy.]( Maggie Starbard/NPR In a small county in rural Northern Nevada, Melanie Keener was once the second-most powerful person in law enforcement. She was Storey County's chief deputy, overseeing detentions, investigations and the patrol division. That ended in 2016 when she reported her boss, Sheriff Gerald Antinoro, for sexual harassment. "[Coming forward has broke me]( Keener said. --------------------------------------------------------------- Before You Go [A plump rat stuck in a manhole cover spurred volunteer firefighters and animal rescue workers to act in Bensheim, Germany, over the weekend.]( Berufstierrettung-Rhein-Neckar/AP - Freeing the fat rat: Watch as [German firefighters free a big boy rodent]( stuck in a manhole cover. - Scientists are trying different coatings of antimalarial drugs on bed nets as [a new method to fight malaria](. - At the farthest edge of North America, across the Bering Strait from Russia, U.S. military radar stations are being [threatened by the consequences of climate change](. - NPR Music’s favorite Latin songs this week [from Alt.Latino (with a Spotify playlist)]( - Forget Romeo and Juliet.
