Plus, a judge halts construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline. [NPR] by Korva Coleman and Jill Hudson First Up [A home burns as the Camp Fire moves through the area on Thursday in Paradise, Calif. Fueled by high winds and low humidity, the rapidly spreading Camp Fire has ripped through the town of Paradise.]( Justin Sullivan/Getty Images Thank goodness it’s Friday. No lie, we need the weekend to settle down and get ready for … whatever is next. Here’s what we’re following today. The huge, fast-moving Camp Fire is spreading across northern California, forcing evacuations and devastating communities in and around Butte County. The wildfire started Thursday morning near Paradise, a town some 90 miles north of Sacramento. By Thursday evening [the town was destroyed]( with hundreds of structures reduced to rubble. Michelle Obama’s memoir, Becoming, will be published Nov. 13. The first headlines about the former first lady’s book have been about [her anger at President Trump]( but it’s a story about her history, how that influenced who she is — and learning to adapt after agreeing to let that life be hijacked by politics. Florida could be headed for recounts in three races. It’s looking like a [first-ever statewide manual recount]( is a real possibility as the margin of votes between incumbent Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson and Republican Gov. Rick Scott tightens. And earlier today, President Trump joined Scott in [spreading claims of voter fraud and foul play without evidence](. The Keystone XL Pipeline has been halted again after a federal judge blocked its construction. Judge Brian Morris put President Trump's executive order approving the pipeline on hold until [an environmental review by the State Department]( is finished. We've written about the “absolutely heart-wrenching” deaths of a few of the Thousand Oaks shooting victims. Many of the victims' names have not been released, but among those who have been confirmed are [three men and one woman, ages 18 to 54](. --------------------------------------------------------------- The Daily Good All aboard the bankmobile! Darius Rafieyan The Bank of Bird-In-Hand — based in Bird-In-Hand, Pa. — had a problem: a lot of its customers were Amish and couldn't make it to the bank in their horse-drawn buggies. So they decided to bring the bank to them. The Planet Money team hopped aboard [to see how the bank-on-wheels model]( is changing the way people access financial services far beyond Amish country. --------------------------------------------------------------- Digging Deeper This time, will South Sudan's peace agreement hold? South Sudan became the world's newest nation in 2011, but fell into civil war barely two years later. Prior truces between South Sudanese President Salva Kiir and his on-again, off-again vice president, Riek Machar, have failed violently, displacing millions of people and leaving hundreds of thousands dead. [Now Kiir and Machar have struck a new accord](. "I'm not optimistic about this deal," says Lauren Blanchard of the Congressional Research Service. There are many new military groups not included in the latest agreement, and it's unclear what role U.N. peacekeepers will play. Blanchard cautions the latest accord only covers the conflict among elites and many South Sudanese still don’t believe it’s safe to go home. --------------------------------------------------------------- Today's Listen Jeff Goldblum the jazz artist? Life, uh, finds a way. [Jeff Goldblum's new album with his jazz group, The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra, is called The Capitol Studios Sessions.]( Pari Dukovic/Courtesy of the artist At his weekly gigs in LA — and now on a new live album — you'll find the affable actor playing keys one moment, holding court with attendees the next and just generally being ... well, Jeff Goldblum. His new album with his jazz group, The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra, is called The Capitol Studios Sessions. (Listening time, 7:06) [▶ LISTEN]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Before You Go [The Satanic Temple says a statue in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina bears too close a likeness to the temple's statue of Baphomet, shown here in Little Rock, Ark.]( Hannah Grabenstein/AP - Satanists are suing Netflix and Warner Bros., claiming that a statue in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina bears too close a likeness to [the temple's statue of Baphomet](. - So, [49 is the new 69]( — if this Dutch guy wins his court case. - Researchers have found [a circuit in the brain that may explain sadness](. - Inquiring minds want to know: [Was 1993 the greatest year in music]( --------------------------------------------------------------- ✏️ What do you think of today's email?
