Plus: What is Kanye wearing? , recipient of the U.N.?s Nansen Refugee Award, known as ?the other

Plus: What is Kanye wearing? [NPR] editor's note Sometimes I’m editing a story and I just stop what I’m doing because the words I’m reading are so powerful. That happened this week when I was looking at [our interview with Dr. Evan Atar Adaha]( recipient of the U.N.’s Nansen Refugee Award, known as “the other Nobel.” Atar is a surgeon in the most difficult of places – South Sudan, where conflict surrounds him and there are tens of thousands of refugees. When he went there to provide medical care 20 years ago, friends told him, “You will die.” That didn’t stop him. “These people have nowhere to go,” he says. “I would feel guilt the rest of my life if I left people in this situation.” It was a beautiful interview with a beautiful soul. Even in the tense and difficult situation where he operates, Atar takes the time to offer a very human touch, spending time with patients to understand their situation: “When the patients ask questions, you must take the time to explain,” he says. In some hospitals, more than 70 percent of births occur by C-section, putting moms and babies at risk. chilling Ebola story [The Tale Of The Hijacked Hearse]( It's been a difficult week in the Democratic Republic of Congo. As a rebel group has stepped up attacks on civilians, some community members who are angry at the government and the international community for failing to protect them have turned on the health workers seeking to combat an Ebola outbreak. The result: The number of new Ebola infections has been rising to more than 30 per week. The World Health Organization's director-general convened a committee to consider whether to declare the situation "a public health emergency of international concern" -- but decided to hold off for now, even as he called for more international support to surmount the challenges. Correspondent Nurith Aizenman has been tracking the Ebola outbreak for us – including monitoring the daily reports issued by the DRC's government. They mostly consist of the kinds of facts and figures you’d expect. But this past Friday, Aizenman found something different – a harrowing account that shows how the community's resistance is playing out on the ground. The story she shares involves a hijacked hearse, a police chase and a public apology. [Read the story here]( what is Kanye wearing?
