{NAME}, Happy April! Unfortunately, last month was a bad month for reading. I've been super busy preparing for our conference [TravelCon](. For the first time in a long time, I read exactly zero books. (Terrible, right?) But the calendar is clearing and so is my headspace. I got a large new stack of books I am determined to read this month! Time to make up for lost time! This month, I've asked [the team]( to share some of their recent reads. Here were their book suggestions: [Wanderess: The Unearth Women Guide to Traveling Smart, Safe, and Solo]( - Wanderess is an exhaustive and interactive resource for women who love to travel the world. From the co-founders of the women’s travel publication Unearth Women, Wanderess features the wisdom, experience, and expert advice from leading women across the travel industry. With a mission to show travelers how to support women worldwide and arm them with the best travel tips, inside Wanderess you’ll find everything you need to experience life-changing adventures. - Erica Get it on [Amazon]( | [Bookshop]( [Four Hundred Souls: A Community History of African America]( - Comprising 80 essays that cover the history of African Americans from 1619 to 2019, this book is a must-read for anyone looking to illuminate the darker chapters of American history. While a series of essays may seem boring or academic, they are actually quite focused and digestible, with each essay focusing on a five-year period (I actually found myself wishing they were longer and more detailed!). If you want to understand America's past, present, and future, the book is an important piece of the puzzle. - Chris O. Get it on [Amazon]( | [Bookshop]( [Shadow and Bone]( - Shadow and Bone, the first book in a trilogy by Leigh Bardugo, follows heroine Alina Starkov in her adventures across a fantastical Slavic-inspired world. An engaging and fast-paced read, I loved the immersive and descriptive world, well-developed and interesting characters, and the constant uncovering of new details that kept me reading (and instantly reaching for the next books in the trilogy). It's also a hit Netflix series now too. - Sam Get it on [Amazon]( | [Bookshop]( [The Body Keeps the Score]( - The Body Keeps the Score is a transformative New York Times bestseller by Bessel van der Kolk, a renowned trauma expert with over 30 years of experience. The book explores how the trauma and stress from our life experiences impact us on an emotional and subconscious level. It combines science, research, and attachment theory to show us how to rewire our brains to more healthy coping mechanisms. The book is a great read for travelers because it will help you learn how to self-regulate during times of stress while on the road. Highly recommended! - Sevan Get it on [Amazon]( | [Bookshop]( And, for more book suggestions, check out some of these past round-ups of my favorite books: - [The Best Books I Read in 2021]( - [16 Non-Travel Books That Changed My Life]( - [The Best Travel Books for Long-Term Travelers]( - [12 Books to Take You Around the World]( - [My Favorite Books of 2020]( OUR NEXT BOOK CLUB PICK IS... Following the collapse of Ireland’s economy, social activist Ruairí McKiernan questions whether he should join the mounting number of emigrants searching for greater opportunity elsewhere. McKiernan embarks on a hitchhiking odyssey with no money, no itinerary, and no idea where he might end up each night. His mission: to give voice to those emerging from one of the most painful periods of economic and social turmoil in Ireland’s history. Engaging, provocative, and sincere, "Hitching for Hope" is a testimony to the spirit of Ireland. It is an inspirational manifesto for hope and healing in troubled times. [Click here to join our live Q&A with Ruairí on April 20th!]( **** If you’re looking for even MORE suggested reading, be sure to [check out all my favorites on Bookshop](. It's not as cheap as Amazon but the money helps small, independent books. If you're in the US and UK, buy from them! (But, if you only use Kindle or live elsewhere, [here's the Amazon link]( Best, Nomadic Matt P.S. - While I appreciate everyone sending me their books, I have a long, long, long reading list and I can't accept any books. I appreciate you offering but, if the universe wills it, I will find your book and read it. Thanks!
