{NAME}, Hello from New Mexico! I'm on my way back to Austin after four months on the road. I'm excited to settle back into a routine, hit the gym, get work done, and see all my friends! This month, I read a lot. But hardly any travel books. I finished the Expanse series in anticipation of the final book coming out next month, read a few business books, and some biographies. I'm making my way through a bunch of travel books right now but, this month, I want to highlight two books I read last month: [The Premonition]( - This book by Michael Lewis is about the early days of the pandemic. It's not an indictment of Trump. It's about the failures of the CDC, planning, and the inertia of bureaucracy. I learned a lot about our country's past pandemic planning and why the CDC was so slow to take COVID seriously. It was a very good book. Get it on [Amazon]( | [Bookshop](  [How to Avoid a Climate Disaster]( - This book by Bill Gates is about the complexity of moving to a carbon-neutral world. His advice is the same as everyone's ("we need the political will!") but what I enjoyed about this book was his really detailed breakdown of just how interwoven carbon is into every industry. We focus on air travel and cars but they actually aren't the biggest problems. He also talks a lot about some of the new tech people are working on, which was super interesting. Get it on [Amazon]( | [Bookshop]( If you're looking for travel books, be sure to [check out all my past favorites on Bookshop.]( It's not as cheap as Amazon but the money helps small, independent bookstores rather than Amazon. If you're in the US and UK, buy from them! (But, if you only use Kindle, [here's the Amazon link]( THIS MONTH'S BOOK CLUB PICK IS... In Beyond Guilt Trips: Mindful Travel in an Unequal World, storyteller Anu Taranath begins at home, unpacking our baggage about who we are, where we come from, and how much we have. She takes us on a journey through engaging personal travel stories and thought-provoking questions, providing us with tools to grapple with our discomfort and navigate differences with accountability and connection. It was a really, really interesting read and I'm excited to have her on to discuss the book. [Pick up the book and]( us for our discussion on November 3rd!]( *** Finally, don't forget we're talking to my friend and fellow travel writer, Lola Akinmade Aksterorm, next Wednesday, October 6th, about her first novel, In Every Mirror She's Black. It's free! Come join us for the discussion by [clicking here](. That's it for this month! If you need anything, let me know! Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
