This will be President Biden's most important foreign policy moment.

Our athletes are in an environment they are unaccustomed to, one that prohibits their freedom of speech and expression. China is treating the athletes, coaches, and media more like prisoners than guests. This leaves me wondering, why did the International Olympic Committee reward China with the Winter Olympics when they so clearly donât deserve that honor? The ultimate symbolic middle finger that China gave to the US and the rest of the world was when they had Dinigeer Yilamujiang light the flame in the opening ceremonies. China intentionally selected Dinigeer because she is a member of the persecuted Uyghur ethnic groups, a largely Muslim population in China upon which the Communist government has been credibly accused of perpetrating human rights abuses, even genocide. They paraded her out as a distraction, to try to convince the world of their innocence in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. âSee? We let this Uyghur light the flame. She is proud to represent China. How could we be guilty of genocide against her people?â Of course, they donât mention that the Communist Party routinely coerces citizens to put on a happy face and lie to the world about their governmentâs misdeeds, usually by threatening them and their families with prison camps or worse if they refuse to play along for the cameras. To add salt to the wound, China then had Dinigeer conduct an interview with a Chinese state-sponsored propaganda newspaper and restricted media access for everyone else. The Chinese government is not to be trusted, and the whole world needs to understand this. The Republicans, of course, will not stop talking about China's human rights violations now, but where were they when Trump was in office cozying up to President Xi? Of course, that wasnât the only moment at the opening ceremonies that the world is talking about. President Xi and his partner in human-rights oppression, Vladimir Putin, got together for a photo op and a meeting, and what came out of that meeting is some more bad but obvious news: Russia has China's blessing to go ahead and invade and occupy Ukraine. Of course, the entire world is looking directly at Washington now and waiting to see how President Biden responds to all of this. This is likely to be President Biden's most important foreign policy moment outside of ending America's longest war in Afghanistan. I say it all the time: No one is more well prepared and ready for this moment than our President. I am confident he will make the right decisions and the rest of the world will follow his lead. While all of this is going on, the Ukrainian people are conducting their own training. The civilians in Ukraine are being trained in lifesaving first aid, weapons handling, and other wartime training exercises. Polls show that half of Ukrainian citizens â men and women alike â are prepared to fight and die to protect their country. As a soldier, that is all I need to hear to say we need to support them and provide them with aid if they request it. But we need to do this by keeping our troops outside of Ukraine while applying the maximum diplomatic, economic, and geopolitical pressure we can against Russia to force Putin to stand down. Make no mistake about it folks â if this war goes hot, it will be a bloodbath. Early estimates show as many as a million Ukrainian citizens could be killed if Russia invades and they fight back. It will also lead to a massive refugee crisis that will devastate Eastern Europe. I hate to be so blunt, but that is what is at stake, and that is what the President and Secretary of State must prevent. The situation is evolving, and I will continue to update you.
