Truth be told the mood around the country – around the world – has not been this bleak in a very long time. As a Syrian-American, I will be the first to tell you that the Iranian regime is an evil one, they have killed members of my extended family using their proxies, if not their own soldiers. They called Syria's war a "civil war", yet it was fought by Russian, Iranian, and Hezbollah troops all joining together with Bashar al-Assad to slaughter Syrian citizens.  I bring this up now, because at any moment the President is going to give the order to retaliate against the Iranians for the recent attack on our personnel that left three American heroes without their lives. I understand the situation the President is in, and I understand that we must respond.  What worries me is how quickly this can escalate into an all-out war with Iran that would require troops on the ground for yet another forever war in the Middle East. No one wants that, but most of all the American people do not want that.  Despite the fact that I strongly disagree with how the President has handled the Israeli-Palestinian war and the one-sided approach this administration has taken supporting Israel while leaving innocent Palestinians to suffer, pragmatically speaking – I can disagree with the President on that issue and trust him to make the right call on how to respond to Iran.  The response must be effective yet measured, attacking American personnel can never be allowed and must be responded to accordingly. What worries me is folks that had nothing at all to do with this attack getting caught in the crossfire and we have to read headline after headline about "collateral damage". Make no mistake about it, if that happens not only will this escalate things, but also we will lose even more trust from the global community. [Rush My Support →]( The Middle East needs new leadership. Benjamin Netanyahu is just as much of a terrorist as his Hamas and Iranian counterparts. We are seeing massive protests take place in Tel Aviv and the Israeli people want to see him in handcuffs – the world wants to see him tried at the Hague.  The Palestinians want to live their lives just like anyone else. Yet we must come to terms with the fact that Gaza is an open field prison and that was the case before October 7th and it was by design, and that is something that, tragically, the US signed off on for far too long. Even before the war began, Gazans could not enter the West Bank, they had no ability to trade with partner nations – cripping their economy, and Palestinians struggled to access even Egypt and Jordan.  Change can happen. We saw it here in America with the end of slavery. We saw what South Africa did under the leadership of the late great Nelson Mandela. Lasting peace can happen in the holy land, we just have to do our part.  We must continue to apply pressure on President Biden to lead. A peace treaty that leads to an equitable and fair two-state solution will be a legacy that any American President can be proud of. It is not impossible. Those who say it is don't know how to dream. We are a country that believes that when we come together, nothing is impossible.  Peace starts with eliminating those factors that stand in the way, and working with those that share our common goal. If we do that, peace is achievable. I can't ignore the elephant in the room – that is, the war hawks in DC. There are hawks on both sides of the aisle, but mostly on the Republican side, who crave war the way the rest of us crave peace. I am talking about disgraced ambassadors like John Bolton and Nikki Haley, and senators like Lindsay Graham.  [These folks are fueled by war financially, but also because pain and destruction is their way of life. If this sounds harsh, so be it, it is the truth.
