The lawsuits challenging this have been drafted and will be filed as early as today, with plenty more on the way. We at No Dem Left Behind have been on calls late into the night and early mornings with our colleagues from across the country, and we as Democrats will not be taking this unconstitutional law lying down.  Abbott and the MAGA Texas GOP want a fight, well, they got one!  The only reason they're doing this is because their Orange Leader demanded it. Over the weekend, Trump used Hitler-style language by saying things like, 'Immigrants are poisoning the blood of our country.' Newsflash to the former Bigot-in-Chief: we are all immigrants!  We are furious, yet we need to stay focused. This is the direction the MAGA GOP wants to take this country, and this is what we will fight with everything we've got.  Abbott's illegal law essentially gives police officers in Texas the power to arrest first and ask questions later. They're targeting anyone whose skin complexion they deem too dark for their liking. Let's not beat around the bush: this is not about border security, this is about racism and a thinly veiled race war.  The bill wannabe-dictator Abbott signed allows any Texas law enforcement officer to arrest people suspected of entering the country illegally. Once in custody, they could either agree to a Texas judge's order to leave the U.S. or be prosecuted on misdemeanor charges of illegal entry.  Migrants who don't leave could face arrest again under more serious felony charges. Pay attention to two keywords: 'suspected' and 'illegal entry.'  First, let's talk about suspects: who defines that, and what criteria will TX troopers be instructed to look for? Second, 'illegal entry': seeking asylum is not illegal entry. The folks coming to our country deserve to be treated humanely. That is what the law and our moral conscience demands of us as Americans.  We know the situation at the border is less than ideal, but rather than work together and help resolve it, this is what the MAGA GOP tries to do.  The situation is ongoing, and we will keep you posted on our next steps.
