Cowering Behind Trump Last night in Miami, the “Party of Losers”, as described by Vivek Ramaswamy, held yet another Presidential debate. If you were wondering, no, Donald Trump was not there. At this rate, the “Runner Up Debates” are becoming silly. This is because it is increasingly evident that the candidates themselves are aware that they’re in a competition for second place. It is almost embarrassing to watch the Republicans on stage cower as they refuse to even mention Trump by name, further cementing in the minds of the audience that he is going to be the nominee. You might ask, what is the point of all of these debates? We are not sure if it's because Chris Christie and Tim Scott want to hear themselves talk, or if Ron Desantis needs to show off how much taller he can look with lifts in his boots. In all seriousness, the debate was very concerning, and every candidate showed just how dangerous they would be as President. Avoiding the Issues Abortion was an issue that most candidates did not want to touch throughout the night. On the heels of major Democratic victories in Ohio and Virginia on the abortion issue, the Republican candidate Tim Scott refused to waver on his 15 week abortion ban. Various candidates also put Social Security on the chopping block. They proposed raising the qualification age, and delaying the retirement of millions of hard working Americans. At a time where issues such as climate change pose existential threats to humanity, Republicans were too busy debating if Tik Tok should be banned. Even more embarrassing was Vivek Ramaswamy’s attack on Nikki Haley’s daughter for having the app. It was one of the moments that reminds you how decency amongst the Republican Party is becoming harder to come by. Our Work is Not Done... There were certainly other lowlights in the two hour long debate, but the one consistent thing throughout the night was that none of the candidates are fit to serve as President. The extremism, hatred, and lack of decency (we could go with partisanship here) from candidates on the stage disqualifies them from the nation’s highest office. While Democrats scored major victories on Tuesday night, Wednesday night was the perfect reminder that the work is not done. [We have to do everything possible in the next 12 months to ensure that no one from that stage becomes President, and ensure Democratic control of government for the next four years.
