The fact that our Olympic heroes are not taken care of after competing for our nation is shameful. Olympic Hero Uninsured Resorted to Crowdfunding to Pay Her Medical Debt  Her story is all too familiar in America. Mary Lou Retton captured American hearts with her performance at the 1984 Olympics. Her dazzling gymnastics routine won Gold in the individual all-around competition, and she made millions of Americans proud of their country. Retton, nicknamed “America’s Sweetheart” by all intents and purposes is a true American icon.  Unfortunately, Mary Lou has fallen ill over the last several months, and is currently in the hospital battling a rare form of pneumonia. To add insult to injury, Mary Lou discovered that she is uninsured, and would be paying out of pocket for the extensive hospital stay.  The fact that our Olympic heroes are not taken care of once we are done watching them compete for our nation is shameful. Mary Lou Retton’s story is all too familiar in America. Unexpected medical tragedy leads to high-cost bills, and someone has to beg online for folks to crowdfund their treatment. It is disgusting that in the richest country in the world, this occurs on a regular basis, humiliating individuals who should be focused on recovery.  We must continue to fight to lower insurance costs and get people coverage to prevent more tragedies like Mary Lou Retton’s from happening. It can only happen when we put Democratic legislators in Congress. [This is why our mission at No Dem Left Behind is so important. Will you chip in today to help us take back Congress and get America insured?]( If you’ve saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: [Chip in $24]( [Chip in $50]( [RUSH $100Â]( [Other Amount]( We can do better.
