It’s the reason why every Republican member of Congress who voted against censuring me the first time around changed their votes — because Donald Trump pledged to primary them if they didn’t vote the way he wanted. It’s why Kevin McCarthy may have made a backroom deal to expunge Trump’s impeachments — because losing Trump’s support means losing his speakership to some other right-wing crazy. It’s why nearly every GOP presidential candidate refuses to speak out against Trump’s indictments and lies — because they know he will ruthlessly retaliate to maintain his control over the Republican Party. While so many have refused to stand up to Donald Trump, I have never cowered to the whims of the twice-impeached ex-president. And that’s why he’s so upset with the idea that Californians may elect me to the Senate. Trump, McCarthy, and their MAGA cronies are throwing every possible attack at me. They’ve removed me from the House Intelligence Committee, they’ve censured me, they’ve smeared me on Fox News. They’ve introduced legislation to bar me from receiving classified information, poured resources into a dark money group called STOP ADAM PAC, threatened to fine me $16 million, and even to expel me from Congress. Their relentless efforts to defeat me won’t deter me from my work to hold them accountable. But as they spend more money to try to hold our campaign back, we need to build up our defenses.
