we have never been here before [Continue reading.]( {NAME}, last night we did not learn anything new. All the crimes were presented against Trump and his cohort of criminals. We watched them commit those crimes live, and America has suffered the consequences. I am writing to you this morning because I have been called into seemingly endless emergency Zoom meetings by progressive leaders across the country. The situation is grim because of the route the MAGA GOP has decided to take. They are doubling down behind their savior at the expense, yet again, of the country. Former VP Mike Pence did issue a statement- too little too late - polling indicates that Pence will not qualify for the Republican Presidential debate. Why does this matter to us? Two things:
One and most important is the issue of violence. Whether we want to admit it or not, Trump has millions of supporters, and they were called into violent action by his rhetoric on January 6th. This is a legitimate concern and one we cannot take lightly. I can say that law enforcement is alert and monitoring the situation, and in all cases where indictments have been suggested or brought forward, the offices have a safety plan in place.
The second reason, as Democrats, we are in uncharted territory. In our country's history, a Presidential candidate has never been arrested and charged with leading an insurrection. We don't know how the electorate will respond in a year and a half. Remember, our presidential elections are not won on the popular vote. President Biden's victory over Trump in 2020 was less than 50,000 votes spread across three states...that's it. If we know these numbers, so does our opposition, and where do you think they are right now as you read this email? Trump's fundraising support and wealth cannot be overlooked. Watch this week as his fundraising number take off to yet another series of historic breakthrough numbers. I know many are celebrating, but our work is far from over. We are in for the fight of our lives, and a Trump victory, despite what you see on cable television, is not out of the question. We will not be underprepared. We will talk to everyone and take no vote for granted.
